Music Therapy is useful with autistic children owing in part to the non-verbal, non-threatening nature of the medium.
"
The Music Therapy Centre opened its doors in Toronto in 2001 with the goal of giving the local community access to music therapy services. From group sessions and individual programs to outreach services, the Centre has shown time and again how much people’s lives can be helped and enriched by music.
“It was Friday morning. And, like most Fridays, there was a lot of activity and excitement at the Centre. I had just started my new position as clinical manager and I was about to meet the Friends of Music group. As I entered the room, Mark, a long-standing member of the group, raised his aram as high as he was able and began to communicate with great determination. Mark has cerebral palsy, which affects his speech, but with the help of vocalisations and his music therapist, his message came across loud and clear. ‘Please don’t ever close the Centre.'"
